The Unknown War - June 22 1941

I have just found on youtube.com an excellent documentary about The Great Patriotic War (the war of the Soviet Union against Nazi Germany), which is named “The Unknown War”.

It has 20 episodes and was released in 1978. This documentary is famous because of big amount of footage from archives. Also this film revealed a new look on the role of the Soviet Union in the WWII.

I will be making a new post for each episode after that I will make up a common post for links towards the posts with episodes. Also you can find all episodes via tag “The Unknown War”.

This post is devoted to the first episode “June 22 1941”.

Vitaly Mutko's English

This week in Russia one of the main pieces of news was a win of the Russia's bid for holding the Football World Cup in 2018. Yes, I'm very proud of it. But what I'm absolutely upset of is a quality of Vitaly Mutko's speech in honour of this win. You can see and listen this moment in the next clip:

You may ask me "Who is Mr.Mutko?". You can find the description of his position on the big screen in the beginning of the speech.

George Michael - Careless Whisper

I feel so unsure as I take your hand an lead you to the dance floor.
As the music dies something in your eyes
Calls to mind a silver screen and you're its sad goodbye.
I'm never gonna dance again
guilty feet have got no rhythm

Though it's easy to pretend
I know you're not a fool.
I should have known better than to cheat a friend

Resource for Russian language learners

I have decided to make up this post because of one reason. I want to promote very good resource for those who study Russian as second (or maybe third) language.

In order to get there just click this link.

There you can find a lot of materials and I hope work on the site will be continued. And if you have a free time and a pedagogical talent, you can help with developing the site by adding your materials.

Konzhak (Konzhakovskiy Kamen')

Konzhak

It is Konzhak (Konzhakovskiy Kamen'). It is one of the highest mountains of the North Ural (1569m).

This photo was taken in January of 2009 from the foot of Kosvinskiy Kamen' during a three-day trip to the North Ural. The summit of this mountain was our main target (destination) for the whole trip. But then because of lack of time and very cold weather we had changed our plans.

Google maps for Konzhak (Konzhakovskiy Kamen'):

I've decided to start this collective blog because of several reasons. First of all, I'm living in Ural and I like its nature, its people, even its climate. Second, I want to share this interest and enthusiasm with other people and to draw international attention as well... Also there are some other reasons, but I will determine and describe them in further posts.

Follow this collective blog and take part in publications and discussions if you have anything to say or just to ask!

The Troggs - Love Is All Around

I feel it in my fingers
I feel it in my toes
Love is all around me
And so the feeling grows

It is written on the wind
Thats everywhere I go
So if you really love me
Come on and let it show

You know I love you
I always will
My mind's maid up
By the way that I feel

There's no beginning
There be no end
Cause on my love
You can depend

I see your face before me
As I lay on my bed
I kind a get to thinking
Of all the things we said

You gave your promise to me
And I gave mine to you
I need someone beside me
In everything I do

You know I love you
I always will
My mind's maid up
By the way that I feel

There's no beginning
There be no end
Cause on my love
You can depend

Kuryer film's soundtrack

This clip doesn't have any words, but anyway I decided to post it here. I liked this music when I was wathing the soviet film "Kuryer". I strongly recommend this film for evryone to watch.

The authot of the next composition is Herbie Hancock and it names "Rock It":

Laura Branigan - Self Control

Oh, the night is my world, city light painted girl
In the day nothing matters, it's the night time that flatters
In the night, no control, through the wall something's breaking
Wearing white as you're walkin' down the street of my soul

You take my self, you take my self control
You got me livin' only for the night
Before the morning comes, the story's told
You take my self, you take my self control
Another night, another day goes by
I never stop myself to wonder why
You make me to forget to play my role
You take my self, you take my self control

I, I live among the creatures of the night
I haven't got the will to try and fight
Against a new tomorrow, so I guess I'll just believe it
That tomorrow never comes
A safe night, I'm living in the forest of my dream
I know the night is not as it would seem
I must believe in something, so I'll make myself believe it
That this night will never go

Pet Shop Boys - It's A Sin

(Twenty seconds and counting...
T minus fifteen seconds, guidance is okay)
??
When I look back upon my life
It's always with a sense of shame
I've always been the one to blame
For everything I long to do
No matter when or where or who
Has one thing in common, too

It's a, it's a, it's a, it's a sin
It's a sin
Everything I've ever done
Everything I ever do
Every place I've ever been
Everywhere I'm going to
It's a sin

At school they taught me how to be
So pure in thought and word and deed
They didn't quite succeed
For everything I long to do
No matter when or where or who
Has one thing in common, too

It's a, it's a, it's a, it's a sin
It's a sin
Everything I've ever done
Everything I ever do
Every place I've ever been
Everywhere I'm going to
It's a sin
