Dmitry Medvedev and The World of Warcraft

At the Council for cultural and science development the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said that the world famous online game The World of Warcraft among different destructive elements had positive issues as well. He admitted that the main idea of this game was connected with a some kind of history of the human civilization and development throughout the time. That is why he suggested to Russian computer game developers to make up a new game similar to The World of Warcraft but with Russian heroes and with connotations with the history of Russian state and Russian civilization.

Yuriy Dolgorukiy successfily launched Bulava missile

Yesterday a new model of Russian naval ballistic missile was launched from “Yuriy Dolgorukiy” (a big ballistic missile submarine of the Borei class). It was rocket of Bulava’s project.

As officials are saying the launch was absolutely successful. It is important to mention that is was the 15th launch in a row, but only eight of them were success.

Now Russian military and government authorities have established a special strict control along the whole manufacturing chain to supervise the quality and accuracy of production of Bulava missiles. That is why they hope to reduce possibility of future failures to null.

It is supposed that the next stage of tests will be a launch of Bulava missile on the maximum range of flight (into the Pacific ocean's water area). And the final stage will be a massive launch of Bulava missiles from one of the big ballistic missile submarines. It would be the whole sub’s arsenal of missiles or at least half of it.

After all of these tests this type of missiles should be accepted as ready to use as a component of the Russian nuclear shield.

Mosfilm, the largest and oldest film studio in Russia, has opened its channel on the Youtube. They decided that they would upload up to 5-7 films a week. You can find the Mosfilm's channel by clicking this link.

There you can find the best examples of soviet and Russian films. And what is more interesting, some of the films are in English or have English subtitles. I think it could help to those who try to learn Russian language or study soviet and Russian culture and history.

I think I should post in the nearest future some films here on the Russian diary with my explanations and comments.

World news topic number one for the last two months is NATO operation in Libya. And those who interested in this topic has their own opinion why this war has been started. Official version is what western politicians try to tell us. And they tell that the only reason is to protect civilians.

But here in Russia the vast majority of people believe that the main reason is oil. For instance, today I found picture (you can see it on the top of the post) where man looking like Uncle Sam is pictured with speech bubble which contains the next words in Russian: "Нефть есть? А если найду?"

This words resemble the everyday slang of "gopnik" (гопник), a person who doesn't have any work, don't study and whos earnings consist of occasional thefts and robberies. These words translate as "Do you have some oil? What if I will find some?"
